Private Boat Day with Dubrovnik Boat
Along the Dubrovnik coast with house music, clear Adriatic waters, a route shaped around us and time on Lopud Island.
A private boat trip was one of the experiences I most wanted to include during our time in Dubrovnik.
I travelled with my partner in June 2026, and we spent the day with Dubrovnik Boat and our skipper, Ivan. Rather than choosing a predetermined route, we asked Ivan to shape the day around what interested us most: beautiful scenery, clear water and locations with fewer boats.
We wanted to see some of the most scenic parts of the coast, swim in beautiful water and visit places without large numbers of other boats. Ivan listened carefully and shaped the route around exactly that.
The result was one of the most enjoyable days of our trip.
Why We Chose a Private Boat
Many boat excursions from Dubrovnik follow a set route and travel with a larger group. They often include the same caves, beaches and swimming stops at similar times of day.
That was not the experience we wanted.
We preferred the freedom to choose where we went, how long we stayed and what kind of atmosphere we wanted throughout the day. A private boat gave us that flexibility.
Before setting off, Ivan asked what kind of route we would prefer. We explained that we wanted scenic locations, beautiful water and quieter places with fewer people.
He understood immediately and planned the day around our preferences.
A Route Planned Around Us
The strongest part of travelling privately was that the itinerary never felt fixed.
There was no pressure to reach a certain number of stops or follow the same route as every other excursion leaving Dubrovnik. Ivan selected locations according to what we had asked for, taking the atmosphere and number of other boats into account.
We could enjoy the coastline and the water without treating the day as a checklist. When somewhere felt right, we could stay longer. When an area was busier, we could continue towards a quieter alternative.
For us, that was more valuable than visiting every well-known cave or attraction.
Music and Drinks on Board
From the beginning of the trip, we played our own music on the boat.
House music is my favourite, and having our own playlist created exactly the atmosphere we wanted for the day. It made the experience feel personal rather than like a conventional sightseeing tour.
Ivan also had drinks available on board, including wine, beer and water.
We could enjoy a drink, listen to music and take in the coastline while he handled the route and timing. These details helped create a relaxed atmosphere from the moment we left Dubrovnik.
Visiting Lopud Island
One of the main stops during the day was Lopud, one of the Elaphiti Islands.
The island was beautiful, with its waterfront, stone buildings and slower atmosphere offering a contrast to central Dubrovnik. We had time to walk around and experience part of the island rather than seeing it only from the boat.
I also bought a Croatia cap as a souvenir, a small detail that became part of the memory of the day.
Lopud gave the trip more variety. The experience was not limited to swimming and travelling along the coast; we could also step ashore and explore at our own pace.
Travelling with Ivan
Ivan made the day feel easy from the beginning.
He was friendly, attentive and genuinely interested in understanding what we wanted. He listened when we described the kind of places we preferred and adjusted the route accordingly.
His approach was relaxed but professional. We felt well looked after without the experience becoming overly organised or formal.
A private boat trip depends heavily on the person guiding the day, and Ivan’s knowledge of the coast allowed us to avoid the busiest locations while still seeing beautiful scenery and water.
What Was Included
The boat was prepared with everything we needed for the experience.
Wine, beer and water were available on board, while life jackets and masks for seeing beneath the water were also provided. Being able to play our own music added another personal element to the day.
The combination of drinks, equipment and a flexible route meant we could simply settle in and enjoy the experience without needing to organise every detail ourselves.
The Atmosphere of the Day
The experience offered a completely different perspective from spending time inside Dubrovnik Old Town.
Once we were on the water, there was more space, fewer people and a wider view of the surrounding coastline. Dubrovnik and the nearby islands became part of one broader Adriatic landscape.
Playing our own music, enjoying drinks on board and moving between quieter locations made the day feel natural rather than heavily structured around sightseeing.
It was private without being formal and relaxed without feeling unplanned.
Who I Would Recommend It To
I would recommend Dubrovnik Boat to travellers who want to experience the Dubrovnik coast with the freedom of a private itinerary shaped around their interests.
The route can be shaped around individual interests, whether that means visiting well-known caves and beaches, spending time on the Elaphiti Islands, swimming in clear water or choosing quieter locations away from the busiest boats.
For us, the priority was beautiful scenery, clear water and a more relaxed route, but another group could plan a completely different day with Ivan.
The experience works particularly well for couples, families or friends who want greater flexibility than a standard group excursion and the ability to decide where to go, how long to stay and what pace suits them.
What to Discuss Before the Trip
When arranging a private boat experience, explain clearly what you want from the day.
We told Ivan that we wanted scenic locations, clear water and places that were not crowded. That allowed him to create a route that suited us rather than relying on a standard itinerary.
Before booking, it is useful to discuss:
whether you prefer quieter or more popular locations;
whether you want to visit one of the islands;
how much time you would like to spend swimming;
the approximate departure and return times;
which drinks and equipment are included;
whether you can play your own music;
how the route may change according to weather and sea conditions.
The more clearly you communicate your preferences, the more personal the experience can become.
What to Bring
Although drinks and safety equipment were available on board, I would still bring swimwear, sun protection, sunglasses, a hat, a towel and a waterproof case for your phone.
Comfortable footwear is useful for walking around Lopud, while a light shirt or cover-up can help with the sun and wind during the journey.
Final Note
Our day with Dubrovnik Boat was one of the highlights of our time in Dubrovnik.
We listened to our own house music, enjoyed drinks on board, swam in clear Adriatic water and spent time on Lopud, all without having to follow a crowded or inflexible route.
Ivan understood exactly what we were looking for and created a day that felt private, scenic and relaxed. His attentiveness, knowledge of the coast and willingness to adapt the itinerary made the experience particularly memorable.
For travellers who want to experience the Dubrovnik coast at their own pace, a private boat offers considerably more freedom than a standard group excursion.
The experience felt completely shaped around us, which was precisely what made it so enjoyable.
